Marco Asensio will leave Real Madrid after eight years. The midfielder annex attacker was in talks with the club management about a new contract, but that has not yielded a satisfactory result. Asensio will therefore leave Real Madrid on a free transfer.
Asensio will leave Real Madrid after eight years
Real Madrid wanted to continue with Asensio, but according to several media in Spain, the midfielder has decided to ignore the proposal. Asensio has never been a regular base player at the Bernabéu and therefore wanted a more important role than Real Madrid could offer him. His departure therefore has a sporting reason and not a financial one. According to Relevo, Asensio will sign with another club sometime in the coming weeks. Aston Villa would be after him.
In the summer of 2015, Real Madrid paid around four million euros to RCD Mallorca for the then nineteen-year-old Asensio. The Spaniard came to many matches every season, but was also often used as a substitute. Asensio wants to appear at the kick-off every week and has chosen eggs for its money.
This season, Asensio was good for nine goals and six assists in thirty games, last season the counter was ten goals in 31 games. With Real Madrid he became champion of Spain three times, won the Champions League three times, four times the World Cup for clubs, three times the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey.
Espanyol wants the court to reverse relegation
Espanyol was relegated from LaLiga last weekend, but don’t stop there. The club has gone to court to challenge the relegation, Spanish media reported on Wednesday.
Espanyol is currently building up a file of VAR situations and other refereeing decisions that were against the club. This includes the match against Atlético Madrid (3-3) and Valencia (2-2). In the duel with Atlético, Espanyol did not receive a penalty after hands from Atlético and a ‘ghost goal’ by Antoine Griezmann was approved. At Espanyol, they believe that it was impossible for the referee to judge whether the ball had crossed the line or not based on the images shown by the VAR.
Unjustified, Espanyol thinks, while decisions from the duel with Valencia are also named. For example, the rejected goal of César Montes, because a violation would have been made on the goalkeeper of Valencia. At the same time, Espanyol has felt disadvantaged by the arbitration all season. For example, unfavorable decisions were made for Espanyol, while the VAR would not have assessed everything.
Espanyol does not believe that the arbitration has sealed the relegation, but believes that it has had a major impact. That is why the club is going to court. That will probably happen next week, after the last round of LaLiga.
