Baba Rahman is officially no longer a Chelsea player. The Ghanaian left back has terminated his contract with the London club and signed a two-year contract with PAOK Thessaloniki.
Chelsea let defender leave after just 23 games in eight years
Rahman has been under contract with Chelsea since the summer of 2015, which took him over from FC Augsburg at the time. In the past eight years, the Ghanaian has played in only 23 official games for The Blues.
In 2016, Rahman was loaned out to Schalke 04, after which he also played for Stade Reims, RCD Mallorca and PAOK Thessaloniki. For the past two years, Rahman has played for Reading in the English second tier.
In recent weeks, the defender had his contract with Chelsea terminated. PAOK Thessaloniki was therefore able to take him over on a free transfer. With the Greek number four last season, Rahman already played seventeen official games in the 2020/21 season.
Rush hour at Inter: Optimism about Lukaku
The name of Internazionale pops up daily in the transfer carousel. This time, the focus is on the possible return of Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku and the changing of the guard under the crossbar.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter wants to pay thirty million euros excluding bonuses to realize the return of Lukaku. Chelsea initially bet on 45 million euros, but is willing to drop the asking price by 5 million euros. There is cautious optimism in Milan, but The Blues are seen as a volatile trading partner.
Lukaku himself wants nothing more than to return to Inter. The Belgian striker exchanged the club for Chelsea two years ago, but his second period at Stamford Bridge also ended in disappointment. After a year on loan with the Nerazzurri, Lukaku hopes for a permanent return to Serie A. Owner Steven Zhang, meanwhile, is doing everything possible to make a comeback possible and link the 30-year-old attacker to signing Marcus Thuram.
André Onana’s replacement
Then there is the keeper’s file. It is known that André Onana is on the verge of a transfer to Manchester United. Bayern Munich goalkeeper Yann Sommer should succeed him. United are reportedly hoping to sign Onana on Thursday. That means Inter can accelerate in the battle for Sommer’s signature.
