Cesar Azpilicueta leaves Chelsea after eleven years. The 33-year-old defender will be presented to Atlético Madrid on Friday and took the time to say goodbye to The Blues supporters a day earlier. Enrique Cerezo, president of Atlético, previously revealed that the defender is on his way to his club.
Azpilicueta bids tearful farewell to Chelsea
“It’s hard to put into words how I feel,” Azpilicueta said in tears in a video posted to Chelsea’s club channels. “It’s been great. I want to thank everyone, because without many people this would not have been possible. What an adventure. There are moments that I will carry with me forever. This stadium is my home and I hope to see everyone back here one day.”
Azpilicueta came over from Olympique Marseille in 2012 and played more than five hundred games for Chelsea. The Spaniard has won just about every prize there is to win. “I am proud of what I have achieved here, on and off the field. It was my life. I’ve been through a lot here. I can never dream that I would ever be captain of this beautiful club,” he added.
The defender experienced his finest moment in 2021. “When we won the Champions League in Porto. The moment we were champions of Europe… I was captain, I got the cup. After that it was all beautiful, with my family and with people who worked hard to make it happen. When I first came here and saw all the prizes, I thought: I want to be part of that, I want to belong to this club,” he said. Atlético confirmed the arrival of Azpilicueta on Thursday afternoon
Nelson is entering his fifteenth year at Arsenal after all
Reiss Nelson has only been out of contract for a few days. The Arsenal attacker ran out of contract at the end of last month, but signed a new four-year contract on Thursday. This marks Nelson’s fifteenth year at Arsenal.
The Englishman joined The Gunners’ youth academy in 2007 and has been loaned out twice in recent years. 1899 Hoffenheim and Feyenoord temporarily used the services of Nelson, who played for Arsenal last season. He was praised by manager Mikel Arteta for his contribution during substitutions, eleven in total in the Premier League. Nelson scored three times in that.
By keeping Nelson, Arsenal also ensures that it will not run into problems registering the squad for the upcoming Premier League season. After all, Nelson is homegrown , an important aspect in the English league these days.
