Paris Saint-Germain visited Marseille for an electric start to the 101st ‘Le Classique’. However last night saw, in one of many of Ligue 1 football results, PSG and Marseille play a goalless draw.
A better point for PSG on this occasion sees their lead at the top of Ligue 1 cut to seven points. This is after second place Lens’ earlier win, following a narrow escape against Angers (football scores).
Meanwhile, Le Classique rivals Marseille have now failed to score in five of their last seven matches in all competitions.
Ligue 1 Football Results – PSG and Marseille Play a Goalless Draw
In the opening 20 minutes of the match, VAR ruled out an opener each for both teams.
PSG’s false opener came first. But Neymar was offside when receiving the ball before he fired a shot in off Luan Peres.
Minutes later, Arkadiusz Milik scored for Marseille, but VAR struck off this goal for the same reason. They thought they saw Pol Lirola venturing offside to provide the assist.
After this, the action didn’t let up, but still, neither side had taken the lead before the half time break.
Lionel Messi, fresh from the two goals in midweek’s Champions League football match, had a chance to break the deadlock. But the ball he struck went inches wide off the left post.
Later, it should have been a big second half with Velodrome fans excited to see who would steal the spotlight.
The task became much harder for ‘Les Parisiens’ in the 57th minute. Achraf Hakimi saw a red card for bringing Under down, leaving the capital team with just 10 men after this.
Meanwhile, Valentin Rongier thought he had scored a goal with 25 minutes to play. But his header bounced wide of the post.
Also, substitute Konrad de la Fuente spurned a back-post shot from five-yards.
So, ultimately, ‘Les Olympiens’ failed to make their one-man advantage count and steal all three points.
