Luis Enrique reported to be the new coach of Paris Saint-Germain. After the deal with Julian Nagelsmann fell through, the champion of France gives green light for the clubless Spaniard.
PSG is sure: Luis Enrique will be the new manager
L’Équipe and Le Parisien report this. There is no agreement yet, but PSG is hopeful that it can bring in Luis Enrique. His appointment should be finalized sometime next week. The final details are still being discussed, including the composition of the technical staff, which is partly formed by Luis Enrique.
Luis Enrique is therefore likely to succeed Christophe Galtier, who had to leave the field from PSG. Although Galtier was only recently put aside, PSG had been working in the background for some time to put a new manager for the group for next season. The club was fully committed to Nagelsmann, but that deal failed this week on the conditions.
PSG became champions of France, but not with a street length ahead, which is expected in France. And in the Champions League it was soon the end of the story.
Ajax and Heitinga split up
Speaking of managers, John Heitinga leaves Ajax. The manager, who took over from Alfred Schreuder last season, was still stuck in Amsterdam until mid-2025. Both parties have reached an agreement on an early dissolution as of 1 July.
Heitinga, former player of Ajax, started working as a manager in the youth academy of the team from Amsterdam after his playing career. The former defender was appointed coach of Jong Ajax in 2021, the team he would lead for almost two seasons. Almost, because after the dismissal of Schreuder, Heitinga agreed to finish the season as head coach of Ajax.
Under the leadership of Heitinga, Ajax eventually finished in third place in the Eredivisie. The championship went to Feyenoord and PSV won the battle for second place and the corresponding ticket for the preliminary round of the Champions League. Ajax, meanwhile, left Heitinga uncertain for a long time whether there was a longer stay, after which the club announced on June 1 that a new head coach would be coming.
Director of football affairs Sven Mislintat found that new manager in the person of Maurice Steijn, who came over from Sparta Rotterdam and was presented last week in the Johan Cruijff Arena. A few days later, the people of Amsterdam announce that Heitinga is going his own way. Ajax reports on its own website that the club hopes that Heitinga can give his career elsewhere. An appropriate follow-up’ by dissolving his contract.
