PSG has appointed Luis Enrique as their new head coach. On the day the departure of Christophe Galtier was made official, the Spaniard was presented as his successor.
PSG gives Luis Enrique the wheel
It had been clear for a while that Luis Enrique (53) would become the new head coach of PSG and everything has now been made official. The former national coach of Spain, who said goodbye after the last World Cup in Qatar, must try to lead PSG to the final victory in the Champions League. Luis Enrique already won that prize once as manager of Barcelona.
PSG, despite winning the league title, has had a disappointing season. The club management therefore decided to break with Galtier after just one year. He still had a one-year contract, which was bought out.
For Luis Enrique, PSG is his fifth job as club coach. Previously he had Barcelona B, AS Roma, Celta de Vigo and the first team of Barcelona under his wing.
Luis Enrique explains in great detail what the goal is at PSG
After chairman Nasser El-Khelaïfi took the floor to talk about PSG’s past months, Luis Enrique showed his face for the first time in the press room. He said, “I thank the club, the president and the sporting director for the confidence. We have to go all out for the prizes and have a common goal. I am confident that we can achieve that with a great team.”
“Several teams have the same goal as us, teams that are more experienced. The Champions League is almost unfair because you can be eliminated if you play one bad game. That should not be an excuse,” said Luis Enrique. “PSG have invested a lot in young players and I want them to help us. I’m here to win and I want to do that hand in hand. I have confidence in the club. Just look at the investments made in recent years.”
Under Galtier, PSG became champions of France, but the Champions League adventure ended in the quarterfinals. The sacred goal of the owners is to win the multi-billion dollar ball.
