Kylian Mbappé informs PSG, according to L’Équipe, that he does not intend to extend his one-year contract. That message would have gone down the wrong way at the French top club. A fracture is not excluded.
“PSG not happy with Mbappé letter: extend or leave”
Just over a year ago, Mbappé extended his expiring contract in Paris by two years, ending a long drama, in which he was continuously associated with a transfer to Real Madrid.
PSG dug deep, very deep into their pockets to keep the French superstar. That commitment included an option for an additional season, so until mid-2025. According to L’Équipe, Mbappé informed the club in a letter on Monday that he does not intend to use it.
The sports newspaper writes that PSG is angry about that message. The Parisians’ club management intended to offer Mbappé a new lucrative contract that would keep him at PSG for years to come. However, the letter from the top scorer changes everything.
“PSG are surprised by Mbappé’s decision and don’t want to be fooled this time. The club wants to take a clear position: either Mbappé extends his contract, or he will be sold this transfer window. He will not leave on a free transfer,” writes the French daily. This report has been confirmed by several media outlets.
Real Madrid is still in the market for Kylian Mbappé. But is a transfer in the cards for this year. Florentino Pérez told a supporter who asked him about this.
Florentino Pérez has clearly not forgotten Mbappé’s arrival
Pérez was filmed when he was asked on the street whether Real still wants to get Mbappé. “Yes, but not this year,” responded the chairman of Los Blancos. The images appeared on social media and were immediately shared by the major Spanish sports newspapers.
Real has been flirting with the now 24-year-old Mbappé for a while now. Last year it actually seemed that the attacker was going to make the switch, but Mbappé disappointed Pérez and signed a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain. This contract expires in the summer of 2025.
Mbappé went from AS Monaco to PSG in 2017, which initially rented the attacker and then bought it for 180 million euros. This makes the Frenchman still the second most expensive player of all time, after teammate Neymar (222 million euros). Mbappé has played 260 games for PSG so far, in which he scored 212 times. He became world champion with France in 2018.
