Arsenal wants to work on the arrival of Jurriën Timber. The Londoners have now made a first offer for the 22-year-old defender of Ajax.
Arsenal is working on transfer Timber: Ajax receives offer of millions
Late Monday evening, The Athletic came with the news that Arsenal has about 35 million euros left for Timber, VI can now confirm that. However, an agreement is not yet in the works. Ajax is betting on a higher amount for the Orange international, who last year extended his contract until mid-2025.
At the time, Timber chose to stay with Ajax despite the explicit interest of, among others, Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United. The born Utrechter had just completed his first full year as a basic player in Amsterdam. Now Timber seems ready to make a transfer.
Arsenal sees Timber as a reinforcement for the defense because of his constructive qualities. The fifteen-time international also has the advantage that he can play both central back and right back. According to reports from England, a personal agreement with Timber should not be a problem.
Celtic’s ex-manager returns after four and a half years
Staying in the UK, Brendan Rodgers returns to Celtic after four and a half years. The Scottish top club confirmed the arrival of the fifty-year-old manager.
Rodgers knows his way around Celtic Park. The Northern Irishman was in charge of Celtic between 2016 and early 2019, which won no fewer than seven trophies under his leadership. Halfway through his last season in Scottish service, Rodgers left for Leicester City. There, the former defender was fired in April due to disappointing results. The Foxes would eventually even be relegated from the Premier League.
Rodgers succeeds Ange Postecoglou at Celtic. The Australian signed a four-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month. Sky Sports know Rodgers’ new contract exceeds his previous commitment at Celtic. That would mean that he will (again) become the highest-paid manager in club history.
Leeds United were also reportedly interested in Rodgers, who initially opted for a sabbatical. So the Whites misjudged. Rodgers has signed for Celtic for three years and is happy with it. “I am very much looking forward to this great opportunity. When I had the privilege of being asked again by this club, it was a very simple decision for me and my family,” he said.
