Joël Veltman has extended his contract with Brighton & Hove Albion. The Premier League club announced on Monday evening that the Dutchman has broken open his expiring contract until mid-2025.
Brighton seals longer stay of ‘key player’ Veltman
Last season, Veltman was an important pillar in the team that reached European football for the first time in the history of the club. Manager Roberto De Zerbi already indicated in April that he did not want to lose the former Ajax player. He confirmed that again on Monday. “I am very happy that he has extended his contract,” the Italian said through the official channels.
“He is a great example for the other players,” De Zerbi continued his praise. The manager sees an important pawn in the international. “He is a key player for us, he is very important.”
Veltman himself also indicated to VI that he was not necessarily eager to leave Brighton & Hove. The contract has now been extended. This means that Veltman will be stuck with the Premier League sub-topper for at least another two seasons. So far Veltman came to 106 official duels in three seasons with The Seagulls.
Arsenal is thinking about Frimpong and reserves forty million euros
Staying in England, Arsenal hopes to add not one, but two Dutchmen to the selection this summer. According to Bild, the number two in the Premier League has reserved forty million euros to unleash Jeremie Frimpong at Bayer Leverkusen.
At the end of last month, it was reported that Arsenal had a personal agreement with Jurriën Timber. If the 22-year-old defender does indeed exchange Ajax for London, he may meet a compatriot. Bild knows that manager Mikel Arteta is internally committed to the arrival of Frimpong. João Cancelo’s name is also still singing around at the Emirates Stadium.
Arteta sees an attacking right back in Frimpong. That is a different type of player than the current right back of The Gunners. Ben White had a strong season, but excels in a defensive role in particular. That Frimpong can be of value offensively, he proved last season at Leverkusen. In the Bundesliga, the Dutchman scored eight goals and seven assists.
Leverkusen, meanwhile, seems to be assuming a departure from Frimpong. With Brazilian international Arthur, the number six of the Bundesliga has already brought in a replacement.
