Stefan de Vrij will extend his expiring contract with Internazionale, various Italian media report Tuesday evening. The 31-year-old defender will be on for seasons six and seven at the San Siro.
Inter prevents transfer-free departure: De Vrij extends contract
De Vrij kept his options open last week. “What is certain is that I am having a good time. We are discussing it. I have confidence in myself and that’s what I’m going for. There are always things to consider, like this. We are talking and after the Champions League final there will be more clarity,” he told NOS.
De Vrij will extend his expiring contract by two seasons: until the summer of 2025. The Dutchman was named the best defender in Serie A in 2020. He made the transfer-free transfer from Lazio to Inter two years earlier. De Vrij comes from the youth academy of Feyenoord.
Van Basten is annoyed: “I think it’s really ridiculous”
Speaking of legends of Milan clubs, the opening ceremony for the Champions League final is a thorn in the flesh for many, for example Marco van Basten. If it is up to the former top striker, UEFA should abolish it from now on.
Every year, UEFA unpacks with the traditional opening ceremony, intended to warm up the supporters for hopefully a blood-curdling game of football. However, Van Basten doesn’t like it. “I think it’s really ridiculous. Why don’t you do it before the warm-up? Those players are now waiting. It is worthless to them. It should be about the football players and not about commercialism and comedy. This way they can sell the tickets more expensively. Ridiculous,” says Van Basten to Ziggo Sport.
Van Basten was also asked at Ziggo about FIFA’s response to his urgent letter. He is annoyed by the attitude of some players and has informed FIFA about this by letter. The world football association has taken it on notice. “A bit bland and lukewarm,” Van Basten calls FIFA’s reaction. “They admit that it has been discussed for some time. We are a few years later and nothing has changed. That shows they are not doing anything about it. I don’t mince words. If I find something I will keep saying it. I hope that sooner or later someone will come who can do something about it.”
