Troyes 1-3 PSG: Paris Saint-Germain strengthened the lead on Sunday. Kylian Mbappé laid the foundation for a positive end to the turbulent week.
Mbappé puts PSG on track after a turbulent week, a welcome result
Although he was missing from Stade de l’Aube, his name was certainly linked to PSG’s away game against Troyes. Lionel Messi had drawn attention to himself with his trip to Saudi Arabia, missed training and his disciplinary punishment. In the run-up to the game against the relegation candidate, he had been the subject of conversation.
The hard core of PSG had used the turn of events to express their displeasure with the disappointing season and the behaviour of the stars. The club was ashamed of those protests at Neymar’s house, among others.
The PSG supporters also asserted themselves around Stade de l’Aube. To their dismay, they had not been welcome in the stadium. The supporters of the home team in turn expressed dissatisfaction within the stadium. In the first half, the game was stopped because of fireworks, which were thrown on the field by supporters.
At that time there had also been cause for complaint at the home club about the course of the match. Kylian Mbappé had already opened the score on behalf of PSG in the eighth minute. The French attacker hit the target after the ball had come back into the field after a cross from Vitinha.
Second half
Troyes dealt some pinpricks, but the low flyer was unable to really disturb the PSG stars. After almost an hour, the home team had to throw in the towel. After a beautiful through ball from Marco Verratti, Vitinha headed the ball into Troyes’ goal via a carom; 0-2.
Troyes could hope for an upset after Xavier Chavalerin’s connecting goal. That feeling was short-lived. Fabián Ruiz delivered the final blow three minutes later; 1-3.
The victory put PSG further behind the competition. RC Lens, which had climbed to second place on Saturday with this victory over competitor Olympique Marseille, is on six points.
With four rounds to go, Troyes is in nineteenth place in the ranking while PSG are at the top of the ranking. The next matchday, Troyes will play at Rennes on Sunday, May 14. Meanwhile, PSG will receive Ajaccio on Saturday, May 13.
