Christophe Galtier’s position at Paris Saint-Germain has come under further pressure. The French trainer, whose position was already shaken by PSG’s disappointing performance, is said to have been guilty of racism in his time at OGC Nice.
Galtier’s position at PSG further under pressure after allegations of racism
This is evident from an email from former technical director Laurent Fournier, who is owned by RMC Sport. In a lengthy letter, Fournier informs Dave Brailsford, director of football affairs for Nice owner Inéos, that Galtier had confided in him that “not so many blacks and Muslims can play on the team.” Fournier said, “He told me he had gone to a restaurant the night before and everyone was falling over him saying that Nice has a team full of black players.” According to Galtier, the people in Nice could not identify with the team for that reason.
In September, Galtier was already embarrassed by Fournier’s statements. The former technical director stated at the time at RMC Sport that the trainer had been guilty of ‘serious things’ at Nice. “It is common knowledge that my relationship with Christophe was quite chaotic. If I told you the real reason, Christophe would never enter a dressing room again.” Galtier then reacted stoically to those statements. “I’m not surprised by the way he expressed himself. If you are a trainer of PSG, you just get a lot of exposure.”
Al-Khelaïfi was unaware of the incident
The revelation of RMC Sport in the After Foot program is causing quite a stir in France. The regional newspaper Le Parisien now also writes about it. PSG has not yet responded, but chairman Nasser Al-Khelaïfi is said to have ordered an internal investigation. Al-Khelaïfi was unaware of the incident when Galtier was appointed last summer. If the allegations are correct, Galtier’s position seems untenable. PSG’s fanatical fans have already demanded his departure through a statement, if the information from the e-mail is correct.
Koeman speaks out about Messi’s return to Barça: “This is his home”
Staying in PSG, Ronald Koeman would welcome Lionel Messi’s return to Barcelona. The former player and coach of the Catalans still regrets that the Argentinian star player had to leave at the start of his second season.
Koeman was also asked about it on Wednesday during the presentation of his golf tournament. “Messi is the best player in the world, when he left it was difficult,” Spanish media noted. From the mouth of the current national coach of the Dutch national team. “His departure from Barca was a black day. I still think it’s strange to see Leo in a different shirt. This is his home, this is where he should be.”
And so Koeman would welcome Messi’s return to Camp Nou next summer, although he does not know whether Barcelona’s financial situation allows it. “It was not good that the board didn’t give him the chance to stay, I don’t know how things are now. From what I read there are many things that don’t speak in favor of Barca, but I am in favor of Messi being a Barca player,” he said.
