Brest 1-2 PSG: Paris Saint-Germain has once again failed to convince. Stade Brest embarrassed the Parisian star formation, but was still forced to bow by Kylian Mbappé.
After the shattering of the Champions League dream, PSG was looking for a way to polish up the damaged blazon. Trainer Christophe Galtier pointed Friday to the unique performance by French standards as motivation for the rest of the season. In prolonging the French title, the total for PSG comes to eleven, an unprecedented number in France.
The next step had to be taken against Stade Brest on the way to that unique achievement. In Stade Francis-Le Blé it was up to Marco Bizot, among others, to stop the Parisian guests. The Dutch goalie succeeded for more than half an hour in that set-up with some great saves.
In the 37th minute, he processed Mbappé’s shot from distance with his fists. The ball came at the feet of Carlos Soler, who in turn gave the Brest goalie a flaming shot.
The opening goal turned out to be by no means the harbinger of a Parisian gala performance in response to the European exit. In fact, on the stroke of half time, PSG was embarrassed. Franck Honorat was at the end of a sharp counter from the home team, who went to the dressing room with a 1-1 score despite a PSG predominance.
Second half
Partly thanks to Bizot, that score remained on the scoreboard until extra time. In stoppage time, the goalkeeper still had to acknowledge his superior in Mbappé, who outplayed Bizot after a pass from Lionel Messi and made the 1-2 for PSG redeeming.
Because of the victory, PSG is a street length ahead of pursuer Olympique Marseille, which is on eleven points. Stade Brest is fifteenth in Ligue 1.
