Auxerre 1-2 PSG: A flash, a bang and suddenly Auxerre faced a 0-2 deficit. In Stade de l’Abbé-Deschamps, Kylian Mbappé again showed his masterful qualities on Sunday. With a double within ten minutes, he showed Paris Saint-Germain the way to an ultimately difficult victory (1-2).
Auxerre has no answer to Mbappé: PSG can smell the national title
Trainer Cristophe Pelissier had undoubtedly given his players extensive instructions about blocking Mbappé, but the Auxerre players were simply unable to do so. The top striker had already struck twice in the eighth minute. First after a nice individual action, then with a hard shot from outside the penalty area (0-2).
PSG seemed to be heading for an easy victory, but Auxerre came back into the game through Lassine Sinayoko. Auxerre even had chances for more, but PSG did not allow that. With the necessary effort, the visitors held their own against the relegation candidates, who still has to pull out all the stops to be able to play in Ligue 1 again next year.
The road to the title
The evening could have been even better for PSG, but the upcoming title party will not take place until next week at the earliest. RC Lens made no mistake visiting Lorient earlier in the day and can still mathematically overtake the Ligue 1 leader. If PSG gets at least one point in Strasbourg on Saturday, the Parisians are national champions.
PSG finally has good news to report to its supporters
Marquinhos is approaching the end of his tenth season with Paris Saint-Germain and his eighth national title in France. The Brazilian is not bored yet: on Friday he extended his contract in the Parc des Princes until mid-2028. With that, he continues to hunt for breaking a club record.
29-year-old Marquinhos came over from AS Roma ten years ago and has played 405 official games for PSG so far. Only two players have more duels to his name: teammate Marco Verratti (413) and the now 65-year-old Jean-Marc Pilorget (436). It seems to be a matter of time that the latter will lose his record.
“This was an easy decision, both for me and for the club,” said Marquinhos, the captain of the team that could win the championship at Auxerre on Sunday evening. “It was clear that both sides wanted to go in the same direction. I never thought of anything else and am very happy with this new contract.” According to L’Équipe, Marquinhos will earn 14.5 million euros gross per year.
With the contract extension of the captain, PSG finally has good news to report to its supporters. Despite the approaching national title, it has been very restless for a while at PSG, which saw its mission to win the Champions League fail again. Especially Lionel Messi and Neymar are under fire; Marquinhos is very popular with the supporters.
