Fulham, Mitrovic and Marco Silva know their punishment following the disturbances in The Cottagers’ FA Cup meeting with Manchester United, more than three weeks ago.
Mitrovic gets mega suspension for shoving referee
Manager Marco Silva has admitted that he insulted the referee and the fourth official that day in word, gesture and behavior. The Portuguese, on the other hand, denied that he had thrown a water bottle at the linesman. Silva is suspended for two games and fined €23,000. That amount is doubled with a second fine for questioning the integrity of the arbitration at the post-match press conference.
Aleksandar Mitrovic has to miss eight games. The Independent Rules Commission believes that the standard penalty for violent conduct, a three match suspension, was ‘clearly insufficient’. As a result, the Serbian gets five more games on top. He shoved referee Chris Kavanagh. He was also fined more than 85,000 euros.
Mitrovic has already completed one of his eight games, so he is still seven games aside. After his suspension there are still three Premier League games, his return could be against Southampton on May 13. Silva will only miss the next two games: at home against West Ham United and away at Everton. At least: if it stays with these punishments. The FA has immediately announced that they will appeal: they want to see a higher sentence for both men.
Finally, Fulham was also fined. A £50,000 bill will soon arrive at Craven Cottage, as the FA blames the club for failing to ensure their players behave in an orderly manner at Old Trafford.
Rodgers: “I would have kept Leicester in the Premier League”
Staying in the Premier League, Brendan Rodgers is convinced he would have kept Leicester City at the top level in England. He didn’t get the chance to prove that he was fired on Sunday.
Rodgers ended his four-year era at Leicester as number penultimate in the Premier League, but the differences are minimal in the tail end of the competition. “I am obviously disappointed to be leaving so close to the end of the season and I was confident that we would deliver the results needed to maintain the club’s status in the Premier League,” Rodgers said.
“I’m now looking forward to having the chance to reflect and recharge myself for the next challenge,” Rodgers continued. “Winning Chelsea at Wembley in 2021 to give Leicester their first FA Cup in club history. Along with commanding European football for several seasons in a row. These are moments I will never forget.”
