Real Madrid desperately wanted to sign Kylian Mbappe, who himself wanted to join them from Paris Saint-Germain, this past summer. They initially bid 180 million euros for the forward, which PSG were prompt to immediately turn down (the football news). Florentino Perez, the Real Madrid president, even offered Paris Saint-Germain €200m as a bid for PSG to part with Mbappe. However, though that was PSG’s initial asking price for their prized Frenchman, the moneyed club rejected the football transfer offer. And, despite Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema recently teasing football transfer news, this is how PSG could afford to keep Mbappe.
Football Transfer News – This Is How PSG Could Afford to Keep Mbappe
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has been speaking at the ECA assembly (football today).
And, according to Diario AS, Al-Khelaifi has explained how his club could afford to turn down Real Madrid’s astronomical offer.
They rejected a €200m bid for a player who has just entered the final year of his contract in Paris.
And the PSG president reveals how: “The only thing that matters is that the club adheres to Financial Fair Play. And Paris is aware of it.”
Many people would disagree with that statement, given how depressed the transfer market has been.
With other clubs struggling with transfers for most due to the Coronavirus pandemic, PSG has recruited remarkably aggressively this summer.
They signed Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos, both from La Liga, from rival clubs for which they were rival captains.
PSG also signed over (goalkeeper) Gianluigi Donnarumma, Nuno Mendes, Achraf Hakimi, and Georginio Wijnaldum in this past summer transfer window.
This means that even if PSG are not violating the FFP guidelines, they do have an undue edge over other clubs, being a “moneyed” one.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid will have to wait until the winter market, viz. January 2022, before going for Kylian Mbappe again.
