Everything indicates that 37-year-old James Milner will exchange Liverpool for Brighton & Hove Albion. Various reliable media report that the negotiations between the midfielder, who is transfer-free after this season, and England’s number eight are in the final phase.
Milner (37) stands for transfer and 22nd season in a row in the Premier League
Milner made his Premier League debut in November 2002, coming on as a substitute for Leeds United, and has played in England’s top tier ever since. The 61-time international currently has 615 games in the competition. Only Ryan Giggs (632 duels) and Gareth Barry (652) played more Premier League games than Milner.
Brighton gives him the chance to continue the hunt for Barry’s record. The South of England has been in talks with Milner for some time and it is expected that an agreement will be reached soon about a collaboration. After Leeds, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Liverpool, Brighton will become the sixth Premier League club to serve the mileage eater.
Klopp praises ‘racehorse’ Núñez and declares reserve turn Gakpo
Jürgen Klopp was very pleased with Darwin Núñez after the narrow victory over Fulham.
The Uruguayan was allowed to kick off at The Reds. Shortly before the break, he was knocked down by Issa Diop. Mohamed Salah scored the only goal of the game from the ensuing penalty. “He was a racehorse, he went for everything. He played a very good game,” Klopp praised Núñez. “He’s always a good option for us. We needed this. We had three very fast players up front (Núñez, Salah and Luis Díaz) who had to let themselves down. He did that very well. He really is a racehorse.”
Klopp also commented on Cody Gakpo’s starting on the bench. “We had a discussion as coaching staff. Who shall we give rest? Diogo Jota couldn’t train and wouldn’t start anyway. We decided that Cody could use some rest too,” Klopp continued.
Both Gakpo and Jota were allowed to come on as a substitute later in the game. “When Diogo and Cody came on, they were really involved in the defensive work. And then we had some sensational chances when the last pass fell through and everything was almost perfect. We could have done better there, but it’s fine. I’m happy with what I saw,” he concluded.
With the victory over Fulham, Liverpool is firmly in fifth place in the Premier League. That place entitles you to Europa League football at the end of the season.
