Qatar vs Senegal
FIFA World Cup
Group A
25th November 2022
Al Thumama Stadium
Preview
The Qatar national team had been able to prepare for the 2022 World Cup for over two months. But there was not the slightest sign of that in the opening game. Coach Felix Sanchez’s men were completely overwhelmed and had no chance against Ecuador. In defense, the “wine reds” made hair-raising mistakes. In addition, one was clearly inferior physically and in header duels.
Also in the game forward, the home side lacked any liveliness and all offensive efforts. In 90 minutes, Qatar didn’t get a shot at the opponent’s goal. In the second game in Group A , the reigning Asian champions naturally want to show a different face. Otherwise, as the second World Cup host after South Africa, there is a risk of being eliminated in the preliminary round in the 2010 finals.
With periods of high pressing and a good defensive position, Senegal posed some problems for the Netherlands on Monday. Again and again the African champion was able to exploit his speed advantages. Of course, the “Lions of Teranga” sorely missed their superstar Sadio Mané on the offensive. In addition, Diallo (Leipzig) and Kouyaté (Nottingham) had to be replaced injured. Whether the two can play against Qatar is still unclear.
When everything pointed to a goalless draw, the individual class of the Dutch made the difference. In the end, the “Elftal” was simply the more efficient team. Coach Cissé was satisfied with the performance of his players despite the 2-0 defeat. The West Africans still have every chance of reaching the round of 16. At the Africa Cup of Nations earlier in the year, Senegal had conceded just two goals in the entire tournament. They haven’t conceded a goal at the World Cup for eight games now.
