Senegal vs Netherlands: Preview
The Netherlands begin their World Cup campaign against Senegal. On paper, the African cation may not be the historically successful nation in the World Cup, but keep in mind that Senegal won the last AFCON.
Then you can take action. However, Senegal’s absolute star, Sadio Mané, was still placed on the team sheet. This isn’t going to happen this World Cup as Mane is not physically fit to compete. The thirty-year-old attacker did not recover from his leg injury in time.
Senegal has additional names that can make Orange fearful. For example, Kalidou Koulibaly (Chelsea), Cheickhou Kouyaté (Nottingham Forest), and Ismaila Sarr (Watford).
After a four-year layoff, the World Cup number three in 2014 and 2010 losing finalist returns to the best stage. The Netherlands is not among the absolute favourites, but it is one of the nations with potential.
The stars on the pitch are Frenkie de Jong and, to a lesser extent, Memphis Depay. National team coach Louis van Gaal is working on his last duty next to the field. It would be the cherry on top if he could give the Dutch the global title.
Senegal will compete in the World Championship for the 3rd time. Senegal unexpectedly reached the quarterfinals in 2002, but Senegal was eliminated in the group round in 2018.
It will be the first time the Netherlands and Senegal meet, and it could be the best encounter in Group A. Two teams with talent who are eager to play football.
The Netherlands is the favourite to win, and given the calibre of Orange, it appears to be doable. Senegal, on the other hand, should not be overlooked.
Predictions
As mentioned earlier, I would not want to go against the Netherlands in terms of the result. However, I do think Senegal will hold their own and hence have backed with a handicap.
Senegal have scored in their preceding twelve fixtures. The Netherlands meanwhile have done so in their last fifteen games. Therefore, a clean sheet for either side does not look likely in this fixture.
Senegal vs Netherlands: Odds
Asian handicap: +1.25 Senegal @ 1.60 odds.
Both teams to score @ 2.23 odds.
