Union Berlin 3-1 Ajax: Union Berlin wrote a new, big chapter in its fairytale book on Thursday evening. Ajax went 3-1 over the knee in Berlin, partly due to a goal from Danilho Doekhi. The star on the German side was in front of the camera afterwards.
Danilho Doekhi points out the beauty of Berlin
“Now you have been able to experience it yourself, nice that the Dutch in the stadium have now also seen it. This is every home game for 90 minutes, in every competition. They always make a spectacle of it,” Doekhi said on ESPN about the acclaimed atmosphere in his club’s stadium. Doekhi has repeatedly commented on how special football is in Berlin.
That atmosphere is of course partly due to the fantastic performance of their favourites. They themselves are still a bit confused about what they are all achieving. “I didn’t think that we would be second in February, that we would get this far in the Europa League. But we are working on a good season, so who knows what is still possible. We are a compact team that is hard to beat. Hopefully there will be something nice at the end of the season,” he added.
“This is a very good match for me. With family and friends there, and then score. That’s very nice, then some discharge will be released. We should celebrate a little bit, but not for too long,” says a sensible Doekhi. After all, the next tough task awaits on Sunday: Bayern Munich away.
Dusan Tadic’s complaint
Dusan Tadic thinks Ajax was unjustly eliminated by 1. FC Union Berlin. The Serbian captain thought that the team from Amsterdam were the better team in the return of the intermediate round in the Europa League.
“It was a strange game, but I’m proud of the team. You have to try not to make mistakes, but I’m proud of how the team fought for it,” Tadic said after Veronica on Thursday evening. That the players of Ajax let themselves go afterwards, Tadic called normal. “You’re frustrated because you feel like you deserve more and they provoked a little bit. Things like this happen in football,” he adds.
Ajax was already ingloriously eliminated in the Champions League and is now also out of the Europa League after the first intermediate round. The people of Amsterdam have no business in Europe, Tadic was presented. “No, I don’t agree. Did you watch the match? We were the better team. Of course we cannot be satisfied with the result, but I thought we were much better. We deserved to keep going,” he concluded.
