World Cup Football Results – Germany Claimed Their Seventh Win
In this game, Kai Havertz was the one to break the deadlock in the 15th minute with an accurate shot. He sent the ball flying into the top left corner.
Leroy Sane looked to get in on the act after Hofmann teed him up, but Stanislav Buchnev superbly denied him. The Bayern Munich man’s effort was thus in vain.
Chances were few and far between for the hosts. But Eduard Spertsyan should have done much better with a close-range effort which he sent over the bar.
There was drama in first-half stoppage time when the VAR encouraged referee François Letexier to view the pitchside monitor. This was following Taron Voskanyan’s challenge on Florian Neuhaus inside the box.
Germany earned a penalty and Ilkay Gundogan converted the subsequent spot-kick with ease and this doubled the Germans’ lead 0-2.
The second half began with a gift for Gundogan, who scored five minutes after the restart. His tame shot from the edge of the box somehow slipped through Buchnev’s grasp to make it 3-0.
But there was a sting in the tail, as Neuhaus caused a penalty decision after his challenge on Davit Terteryan. Because of this knock at the other end of the pitch, Neuhaus saw Letexier point to the spot once more.
The hosting side’s captain Henrikh Mkhitaryan stepped up to score from the penalty spot past Marc-Andre ter Stegen. This was just a minute before an hour mark.
The hosts’ joy was short lived though, and Hofmann ruthlessly punished some indecisive Armenian defending with a clinical finish. He scored a goal past Buchnev at his near post in the 65th minute.
