Spain are the first Euro 2020 semi-finalists after they beat Switzerland 4-2 (1-1.1-1) on a penalty shootout in St. Petersburg.
Spain thus held true to our football prediction for them winning, and Luis Enrique’s Euro 2020 projection for them, too.
The Spaniards took the lead with an own goal by Denis Zakaria (8) after a shot by Jordi Alba.
However, the Swiss equalized through Xerdan Shaqiri in the 68th minute.
In the 77th minute, Remo Freuler received a direct red card, but the Swiss lasted anyway until the penalty.
Fabian Schar, Manuel Akanji, and Ruben Vargas missed in the penalty shootout for the Swiss.
Sergio Busquets and Rodri also missed for the Spaniards, who eventually did have more penalty strikes on aim, though.
Spain Are the First Euro 2020 Semi-finalists
Having thus played and won the first quarter-final fixture against Switzerland, Spain are the first to qualify to the semi-finals.
For the Spaniards, this is the fourth semifinal at the European Championships.
And, in deadly statistics, so far, they have won the European title every time they pass the quarterfinals.
Now, Spain will face Italy, who won over Belgium last night, on July 6 at Wembley.
