Javier Tebas, the La Liga president claims that Paris Saint-Germain are cheating, because how else can they afford to pay the combined salaries of Lionel Messi, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Sergio Ramos, and all the other high-profile players, new signings or otherwise.
Tebas has labelled French, Parisian outfit PSG as financial ‘cheaters,’ claiming the club has an illegitimate financial edge over others.
Messi left La Liga for the French giants (football transfer) in the summer after Barcelona’s overwhelming and impossible financial difficulties.
Indeed, Barcelona were unable to offer the six-time Ballon d’Or winner a new contract extension due to strict salary regulations.
Former Real Madrid captain Ramos also left for Paris after failing to reach an agreement on a new Real contract.
At the same time, besides these new inbound transfers, the club refused to sell Mbappe to Real Madrid last month.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi first explained how they could afford to retain Mbappe (the football news). Then, PSG’s sporting director Leonardo reassured fans that the France international would sign again with PSG itself (football transfer news).
La Liga President Claims That Paris Saint-Germain Are Cheating
Meanwhile, La Liga president Javier Tebas has a long history of animosity toward PSG. In fact, it dates back to their €222 million acquisition of Neymar in 2017.
At the same time, critics have questioned Real’s ability to pursue Mbappe and others, including Erling Haaland and Paul Pogba.
However, Tebas insists Los Blancos will never cheat, and cites his bitter rivals PSG while substantiating his claim.
As a result, he has once again unleashed on PSG, insisting that they cannot cover salaries on normal income alone.
“Madrid can never be PSG because PSG cheats the financial controls,” Tebas said, via Mundo Deportivo.
“Currently they have a salary expense close to €600m when they are in a league where [income from] broadcasting rights have fallen by 40%.”
Tebas continued, “It is impossible that PSG has sponsors that give them 30% more than the average income of [Manchester] United, Real Madrid, Barcelona…it is absolutely impossible.
“Real Madrid will not be PSG because it does not enter the game of cheating and it is not a state club. That is one of the problems we have in European football.”
