After Barcelona’s Gerard Pique called the El Clasico football match impossible to call, in last night’s La Liga football results, Real Madrid won 1-2 at Camp Nou, triumphing away against Barca.
David Alaba’s first Real Madrid goal and an injury-time strike by Lucas Vazquez secured the win for Real Madrid.
It is the fourth consecutive ‘El Clasico’ victory for Los Blancos for the first time since 1965.
Consequently, Carlo Ancelotti’s men have now regained the La Liga leadership moving five points ahead of the Catalan rivals.
La Liga Football Results – Real Madrid Won 1-2 at Camp Nou
First Half
Both teams struggled to break the other down in the first half.
The Blaugrana dominated possession but ultimately created little to trouble Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Ansu Fati, could’ve become the fourth player in the 21st century to score in his first two ‘El Clasico’ starts. Determined to reach this rare feat, Fati was dangerous for the hosts. Indeed, he would have recorded an assist had Sergino Dest not missed the perfect opportunity to score.
Barça’s wastefulness in general proved to be their undoing as they fell into the Real Madrid counter-attacking trap.
They went a goal behind before the half time break when David Alaba fired his first-ever goal for Real Madrid. He slotted the ball past Marc-Andre ter Stegen into the top right corner from the edge of the box.
Second Half
Ronald Koeman was already under pressure at this early stage of the campaign. Further, here, he was in danger of becoming only the second Barcelona manager to lose his first three El Clasicos’. So, he needed a huge second half from his side to claw back a result.
Koeman introduced substitute Philippe Coutinho to the pitch for the hosts to add an attacking spark. And indeed, Real had to block a Coutinho effort within just three minutes of the restart into the second half.
They also had to save a Fati attempt.
After those initial attempts from the hosts, ‘Los Blancos’ regained control and initiated their plan to see out the game.
Carlo Ancelotti had a point to prove of his own, seeking a first win at Camp Nou in five visits.
Then, deep into an injury time Lucas Vazquez doubled the lead for the visitors.
The goals weren’t over yet though, as Sergio Aguero came off the bench to pull one back. But his consolation goal for Barcelona was too little too late to restore the parity.
