In La Liga football results, Barcelona and Sevilla tied 1-1 on Tuesday, with the two goals just 13 minutes apart.
Both goals came from corners in an engaging first half as the rain poured down at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium. The Blaugranas equalized on Sevilla’s opener in the first half itself.
Jules Kounde was sent off for Sevilla after the break. Still, despite playing against 10 men for half an hour, Barcelona couldn’t manage anything more than a 1-1 draw.
La Liga Football Results – Barcelona and Sevilla Tied 1-1 on Tuesday
Barca started strongly despite the wet conditions in the south of Spain. Indeed, Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou saved an early Frenkie de Jong header, while Ferran Jutgla twice shot wide from distance.
Sevilla, on their part, though, slowly grew into the game with Rafa Mir posing a threat as the game progressed. The striker suffered one invalid goal for being offside before firing another shot from 20 yards, but off target.
Sevilla’s Papu Gomez eventually broke the deadlock for the home side in the 32nd minute. A clever corner routine ended with the Argentina forward finishing brilliantly from just inside the box.
But Barca too soon scored and levelled the tally to 1-1 just before half-time from a corner of their own. Defender Ronald Araujo rose highest to sim Ousmane Dembele’s delivery into the corner of the Sevilla net.
Sevilla became the better side at the start of the second half, with Mir and Thomas Delaney both missing chances.
But this momentum swung in Barcelona’s favour when Kounde had to quit the pitch on a dismissal. The France defender reacted to a Jordi Alba by throwing the ball into the Barca player’s face. And he earned a straight red card for this offence.
Gavi headed a chance for Barca, but it was Dembele who looked most likely to make something happen late on. The France international struck the woodwork with a fine individual effort.
Dembele then also set up substitute Luuk de Jong, who was playing against his parent club. But the Dutch striker headed the ball straight at Bounou.
There was still time for Jordi Alba to force a final save from Bounou in stoppage time, too.
But eventually, both teams were forced to settle for a point.
