Nuno Tavares has joined Olympique de Marseille on a season-long loan deal from Arsenal.
The Olympic club announced: “Olympique de Marseille today announced the signing of Nuno Albertino Varela Tavares from Arsenal FC. The 22-year-old attacking left-back is on loan for a year, after the success of his medical examination.
“Born in Lisbon (Portugal) on January 26, 2000, Nuno Tavares was trained by Casa Pia AC, he also went through Sporting Portugal before returning to his original club. In 2015, he joined the Benfica Lisbon training center where he became a professional and played 41 matches (1 goal) before committing, during the summer of 2021, to Arsenal FC (27 matches, 1 goal).
“Portuguese international hope since 2019, Nuno is a left piston with a great top speed, a physical volume and a power well above the average and above all an ability to repeat high intensity efforts. : so many additional assets to complete the Olympian squad.”
The Gunners confirmed the transaction, stating: “Nuno Tavares has joined Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille on a season-long loan deal.
“The 22-year-old left-back joined us in the summer of 2021 from Benfica. And made 28 appearances for us in all competitions last season, scoring once and assisting twice.
“The Portuguese Under-21 international scored on his first appearance for the club. Netting in our pre-season friendly against Rangers in July 2021. Nuno’s first competitive Arsenal goal broke the deadlock. In our 3-1 Premier League home win against Manchester United back in April.

“The loan deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.”
