Noussair Mazraoui is having a roller coaster season at Bayern Munich. The Moroccan defender fights for playing minutes and the confidence of trainer Thomas Tuchel.
Mazraoui: “I’m suddenly fourth choice”
Mazraoui is more than he likes on the bench at Bayern. Little is left of the status acquired under the now dismissed Julian Nagelsmann. Under the new trainer Thomas Tuchel, he mainly sits on the bench.
Mazraoui, who came in early on Saturday due to Alphonso Davies’ injury as a left back, knows how his trainer feels about him. He said, “I have to start all over again to enforce credit and get playing minutes. While I had shown to the previous trainer that they can expect me here. I am now the fourth choice as right back…”
Tuchel’s message is a bitter pill for Mazraoui. He added, “I’m 25 years old, had a good period here this season and played a strong World Cup. Then you just want to play and not sit on the couch as yet another choice. Anyone who knows me knows that I don’t give up. I keep fighting for my place, but the past period has been very frustrating and disappointing.”
According to Kicker, it is quite possible that Gravenberch and Mazraoui will leave the Allianz Arena next summer. The same is expected of Daley Blind: although he is not written about in the article, Blind has an expiring contract and hardly plays. In Germany everyone assumes that Blind will not get a new contract.
Future of Sadio Mané in Munich
There are also question marks about the future of Sadio Mané in Munich. The attacker was the top purchase from Bayern last summer, but does not come out at all in southern Germany. Mane recently had a fierce argument with teammate Leroy Sane. That resulted in a suspension and a huge fine.
Serge Gnabry, Benjamin Pavard, João Cancelo, Yann Sommer and Mathys Tel leaving?
“A buyer is being sought for Mane,” Kicker claims. The football magazine also reports that Serge Gnabry, Benjamin Pavard, João Cancelo, Yann Sommer and Mathys Tel seem to be on their way to the exit. Bayern would like to rent out eighteen-year-old Tel. Sommer has only been playing for Bayern since January, but does not make a great impression and can leave again in the summer. The option to buy that is in Cancelo’s lease is too much for Bayern and Pavard is only fixed until next summer. Bayern would like to continue with the Frenchman, but Pavard seems to want to make a transfer.
Gnabry remains. The German international extended his contract with Bayern last summer, but is not a basic player. Kingsley Coman and Sané are preferred. “That’s why Gnabry is also a candidate to leave,” said Kicker.
