Benjamin Pavard wants to leave Bayern Munich, German media report Tuesday morning. The French defender has indicated to the club management that he will not extend his contract until 2024.
Defender submits departure wish after four years
Pavard has just become champion with Bayern and thinks this is a good time to close the Bundesliga door behind him. The right-back reportedly already indicated in January that he would like to make a move this summer. Trainer Thomas Tuchel has done his best to keep Pavard, but his decision stands. Pavard has options in England and Spain and Barcelona would be an important candidate.
The Frenchman is still in Munich until 2024, so it is not expected that Bayern will be able to get the top prize for him. Pavard made the switch to Bayern for around 35 million euros in 2019, which took him over from VfB Stuttgart. Ben Pavard played for that club for three seasons.
Pavard won the Champions League, the World Cup for clubs, the UEFA Super Cup, the German Cup three times and was champion of Germany four times with Bayern.
Bayern Munich brings back Karl-Heinz Rummenigge
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge returns to an official position at Bayern Munich. The 67-year-old director takes a seat on the supervisory board of the German top club.
After thirty years of service as a director, Rummenigge said goodbye to Bayern earlier than expected in the summer of 2021 to make way for his successor Oliver Kahn. However, under the leadership of the former goalkeeper, the club experienced an exceptionally hectic season.
Kahn and technical director Hasan Salihamidzic intervened drastically in March by firing Julian Nagelsmann. Under successor Thomas Tuchel, things then went worse rather than better. Nevertheless, Bayern was crowned champion of Germany last weekend.
Nevertheless, the club intervened hard shortly afterwards: Kahn and Salihamidzic were sent off. Jan-Christian Dreesen is expected to succeed Kahn as general manager.
Bayern will in any case announce on Tuesday that Rummenigge has been added to the supervisory board. The German former player of the club officially returns to the club after an absence of two years.
