Erling Haaland was a promising talent right from his days in RB Salzburg. But came under the spotlight when he scored nine goals in the Norway under-20 team’s 12–0 win against Honduras at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The Norwegian emerged as one of the deadliest strikers following his move to Dortmund. With whom he has scored 56 goals in 61 games.
It seems like teams across Europe were interested in him only months after his arrival in Germany.
In this situation, Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke spoke regarding the situation last week.
“I’ve given up judging media rumours. Otherwise, my day would have to have 36 hours,” Watzke said.
“We don’t currently know anything specific from the player side, nor has anyone approached us. However, we cannot keep up financially if Manchester City comes in.
“We’ve seen it a few times: we lost Lewandowski to Bayern in 2014 and Aubameyang to Arsenal in 2018. We’ve always created a new star.
“If Haaland leaves, we will find another new talent and develop it into a star, and that will also do the Bundesliga good.”
Erling Haaland: Transfer round-up
We now learn that Real Madrid who were looking to bolster their attack with the signings of Mbappe and Haaland have now decided against it. This is according to a report by Marca, that stated that the Norwegian has not been desired due to his injuries and salary issues.
“Real Madrid are dropping their interest in signing Borussia Dortmund attacker Erling Haaland. Due to his recent injuries and the salary he and his agent Mino Raiola are demanding,” the statement read.
Following this, it should be interesting to see when and where the mercurial talent will move. However, it is certain, the club that manages to get him will terrorise defences for at least the next decade.
