Bayern Munich 1-1 Hoffenheim: Bayern Munich suffered another blow on Saturday afternoon. At home against 1899 Hoffenheim things went wrong again for Thomas Tuchel’s team, who were lucky that Borussia Dortmund also lost points.
After an eventful week, Tuchels Bayern also falls through the ice in the Bundesliga
The pressure was on at Bayern after the shocking 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. After that match, tempers also ran high within the selection, Sadio Mané dealt a striking blow to teammate Leroy Sané. The Senegalese was fined for this and was not included in the selection for the competition match with Hoffenheim.
Sané was at the kick-off and saw Bayern take the lead after more than fifteen minutes. After a deflected corner, Kingsley Coman took a shot from distance. His shot came right at the feet of Benjamin Pavard, who checked and shot in: 1-0. Bayern was on roses so early and had opportunities to further expand the score. However, that did not happen, leaving Hoffenheim alive.
In the 71st minute Bayern got the lid on the nose. Andrej Kramaric curled a free kick short over the wall towards the top corner. Yann Sommer saw the ball late and got a hand against it, but that was not enough to prevent a goal: 1-1.
Bayern suddenly had to chase again. That quickly led to a second goal from Pavard, but after interference from the VAR, his goal was rejected: the Frenchman was offside when Matthijs de Ligt headed the ball through.
Tuchel then brought in Ryan Gravenberch, among others, to force another winning goal. There were also opportunities for that, but they were not spent on Mathys Tel and Serge Gnabry. Bayern lost points again under Tuchel, who only managed to win two of his first five matches as Bayern coach.
Despite that draw, Bayern maintain their two-point lead over Dortmund, who in turn drew against VfB Stuttgart. Bayern also has a significantly better goal difference than the major competitor.
RB Leipzig 3-2 Augsburg
It was Timo Werner’s afternoon in Leipzig. After Arne Maier’s opening goal, Werner already provided the assist for the home team’s equalizer. Then the German striker himself struck twice. That second goal was his hundredth in the service of Leipzig and also a very nice one.
