Bayern Munich 1-1 Cologne: Bayern Munich barely got a point from the game against 1. FC Köln in the Bundesliga. With a bang from a considerable distance, Joshua Kimmich prevented a defeat just in time: 1-1.
Bayern started with Matthijs de Ligt in the starting line-up, while Ryan Gravenberch played the entire second half. Daley Blind remained on the bench and is still waiting for his debut in the Bundesliga. At the time of Gravenberch’s substitution it was already 0-1, because in the fourth minute Ellyes Skhiri hit the far post after a corner.
Bayern had a hard time with Köln and created few good chances. Almost immediately after the break, Gravenberch took his chance: the substitute hit the outside of the post with a long shot. Moments later, Kingsley Coman encountered keeper Marvin Schwabe.
Time was running out for Bayern. In the last minute of the official playing time, Kimmich hit hard from a long distance. His icicle hit the bottom of the crossbar and into goal, averting Bayern’s second defeat of the season.
Daley Blind’s return to Ajax
In other news, although Daley Blind is not happy with the way he left Ajax, he sees himself returning to Amsterdam in the future. The 32-year-old Bayern Munich defender had ‘never imagined’ leaving through the back door.
“It is still painful that I no longer play at Ajax,” says Blind in the FC Afkicken podcast ‘Football is Life’, which he set up together with sports journalist Diana Kuip and ex-teammate Siem de Jong. He added, “I had imagined to end up at Ajax. When I came back, I always kept the door open for a new adventure, but my intention was to end my career at Ajax.”
However, things turned out differently. Blind fell out with trainer Alfred Schreuder and left for Germany. He concluded, “It still hurts. I can see myself returning to Ajax one day, one way or another, I do feel connected to the club. And I never imagined the situation would turn out like this,” he says. ‘I am an Ajax player and I will not just return to Ajax from Manchester United at the age of 28 – in the best time of my career.”
