Carlo Ancelotti can reach the semi-finals of the Champions League for the fourth time with Real Madrid on Tuesday evening. The Italian trainer realizes that he is part of the rich history of the Madrid superpower in the most important European cup tournament.
Ancelotti: “Real Madrid is the king of the Champions League”
Ancelotti has already won the Champions League twice with Real, which has a total of fourteen European Cups in its trophy cabinet. Now the title holder is again close to the semi-finals after last week’s 2-0 win in the first leg with Chelsea, which hopes for a comeback at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening.
“At this club we know very well what to do,” Ancelotti said during his press talk. “It’s not always about winning, you always have to fight to the end. If we go into battle, we can play another semi-final. If we can do that, we’ve done well.”
“History says that this club is the king of the Champions League,” Ancelotti continued. “We are a small part of that history,” the Italian top coach pointed to Real’s rich past in the European Cup I tournament. “And now we want to add a chapter to that story.”
Ancelotti did not want to reveal anything about his starting line-up, now that Toni Kroos and Vinícius Júnior are available again after they missed the league match with Cádiz. “This selection has made me change my mind so many times. I think it’s disrespectful to only talk about eleven players,” the Italian said.
Ancelotti explains why he could not replace Benzema
Real Madrid seems to be ready for the second meeting with Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. On Saturday, the Royals worked on self-confidence with a very convincing match against Cádiz ( 0-2 ). Coach Carlo Ancelotti stood along the line enjoying himself.
Real played Cadiz from pillar to post and secured the three points in the second half, through goals from Nacho Fernández and Marco Asensio. It was a small miracle that it remained with two goals: Real had chance after chance and scored a total of 35 goal attempts. That is by far the highest number of a team in one league match in this La Liga season.
