Champions League – Manchester United vs Atletico Madrid: United failed to find the equaliser at old Trafford after they conceded to Renan Lodi in the first half. The Red Devils chased the game throughout the second half but could not get past Oblak and his defence.
Following their 1-1 showdown at the Wanda Metropolitano. Manchester United along with the capacity Old Trafford crowd; were against one of the most defensively solid teams in Europe over the last decade.
Both teams did create chances early on in the game; especially the hosts were making the most of their opponents’ 3-1-4-2 formation on the counter. Things however, changed when Renan Lodi planted a header off the end of Antoine Griezmann’s ball in.
The second half was all about the hosts trying to find the equaliser and filing attempt after attempt.
The contest concluded 0-1 (aggregate 1-2) in the visitors’ favour who progressed to the final eight.

Manchester United’s Ralf Rangnick: “I don’t know what you mean by naive. Against a team like Atletico, who are the champions of that style of football, it’s not easy. You have to break through that wall somehow. We don’t have the most physical of teams to break through walls. You need physicality and in the second-half it was difficult.
“We brought all the offensive players we had on the bench to score the equaliser; but it was difficult against this wall of players,” he said when it was suggested United were ‘naive’.
In a disgraceful act following full-time United fans hurled objects at Atletico’s manager Diego Simeone; after he walked off the field without shaking hands.
Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone had mentioned earlier: “ I don’t like the greeting after the match because they are the emotions of two sides in different emotional minds.
“I know in the UK it is a custom but I don’t share it and I don’t like the falseness it may include.
“I don’t know Klopp as a person very well but I know he is a great coach who has done great work at every club he has been at.”
