Luciano Spalletti says goodbye to Napoli after this season. However he made sure he will never forget his time at the club. A special tattoo on his left arm ensures that.
Spalletti explains why he is leaving Napoli and shows impressive tattoo
On Sunday evening, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed that champion maker Spalletti will leave the club. According to the president, the success trainer had asked for a sabbatical. “I’m glad it’s come out now,” Spalletti said at an event Monday. “Sometimes you get divorced because of too much love. I can’t bring Napoli what it deserves. A few weeks ago I already told the club that I need rest. I won’t be working anywhere else next season.”
The 64-year-old Spalletti worked for Napoli for two seasons and made the team champion of Italy for the first time since 1990 this year. The coach has celebrated that success with an eye-catching tattoo: the Napoli logo and an Italian shield with the number 3 can now be found on the inside of his left arm. That number refers to the third Scudetto in Napoli’s history.
Meanwhile, the rumours that Luis Enrique will be Spalletti’s successor are getting more and more serious. Various Italian media will announce on Monday that negotiations with the former national coach of Spain, who has already worked as a trainer of AS Roma in Serie A, have been opened.
Napoli chairman advocates abolishing rest after the first half
Aurelio De Laurentiis is known for his startling statements and made himself heard again on Monday. The president of Napoli wants to bring about a change in international football.
In conversation with Che Tempo Che Fa, De Laurentiis spoke about his ideas to make football more attractive. He thinks changes are needed to keep it interesting for the new generation. “I don’t want to revolutionise football, but I would like to bring back to the sport the young people who are losing their attention to smartphones and social media platforms.”
“They no longer have the patience to follow football,” explained the chairman of the Serie A champion. “I would like to talk to the minister of education and teach in schools. Then I would let them watch the Argentina-France World Cup final. That makes them enthusiastic.”
De Laurentiis has reservations about the current regulations. “We still have a fifteen minute break. That’s crazy. There should be no break, each team has 27 players to use for ninety minutes. The peace and quiet pulls the young viewer away from the sport.” he mentioned.
“The competitions are also too unbalanced, so they have to be smaller. There are no karts in Formula 3 either. And the best drivers drive in Formula 1. The competitions are too big,” the much-discussed Italian explained. “Competitions should be divided according to the size of the cities. A city of thirty thousand inhabitants cannot compete with a city of three million inhabitants.”
