Inter Milan 1-0 AC Milan: This calendar year, AC Milan is a shadow of the team that grabbed the Italian national title last season. Just like eighteen days ago, rivals Internazionale were much too strong for the Rossoneri on Sunday.
Milan’s last victory dates from January 4, when Stefano Piolo’s team put aside mid-engine Salernitana. Since then, a series of six games without a win followed. It wasn’t just the competition that went wrong. Torino eliminated Milan in the cup tournament, Inter won the final of the battle for the Supercoppa Italiana with clear figures (3-0).
At Inter, trainer Simone Inzaghi again had no place in the base for Denzel Dumfries and Stefan de Vrij, who are in a form crisis. Without both Dutchmen, the home team on paper was much stronger than the club from the red-black part of Milan. Lautaro Martinez expressed the balance of power in the score ten minutes before the break. The Argentinian world champion headed in through Simon Kjaer’s body (1-0).
Milan could not complain that it stayed there for a long time. Just before the hour expired, the visitors scored the first chance of the game through Olivier Giroud. In the final phase, Milan even insisted and Inter had to go backwards, but no more goals were scored. That means the Nerazzurri are firmly in second place. Milan, who failed to win for the fifth consecutive time in Serie A, remains fifth.
Spezia 0-3 Napoli
Meanwhile, in their hunt for a seemingly certain national title, Napoli has collected three points from low flyer Spezia: 0-3. The home team helped very emphatically with the goals of the list leader.
Napoli is having a great season and, after Sunday’s victory, has no less than sixteen points more than number two Internazionale, which will play the derby against AC Milan later this Sunday. The leader of the Serie A often impresses with cheerful attacking play, but that was not much the case against Spezia. Luciano Spalletti was therefore regularly ranting along the line.
The fact that his team still achieved a simple victory was mainly due to Spezia’s defensive work. With the opening goal, already in the first minute after the break, Arkadiusz Reca made hands in a very clumsy way. The penalty kick that followed was shot in flawlessly by Kvicha Kvaratskhelia.
At the 0-2 goalkeeper Bartlomiej Dragowski did not look good. After a flare, Victor Osimhen jumped higher than the keeper, while Dragowski was able to put his hands up. However, the Pole barely got off the ground. The third Napoli goal was then completely a gift. Mattia Caldara was the last man to hand the ball over to Kvaratskhelia, who offered Osimhen an opportunity not to be missed. The Nigerian scored his sixteenth goal of the season.
