Olympique Lyon has terminated Peter Bosz’s employment. As a result of the trainer’s underwhelming performance, the club fired him. According to Lyon, Laurent Blanc will succeed the Dutchman.
The top team in France had a strong start to the season but dropped four straight games in Ligue 1 last month. The club administration has had enough after last Friday’s dismal draw with recently promoted team Toulouse.
The decision to resign is not unexpected. It has been widely discussed recently who would have received an ultimatum in Bosz’s situation. “That isn’t the situation. In response to the repeated rumours, the club issued a statement to stress its entire faith in Bosz, his staff, and his players. Last week, the trainer made it clear that he did not worry about being fired.
Bosz’s time as a coach at Ajax, where he led the team to the Europa League final, is when he first became well-known in the Netherlands. He joined Lyon in May 2021 after brief stints at Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen. He received accolades for his aggressive playing style, but he also received flak for his team’s frequently inconsistent performance.
Olympique Lyon has appointed Laurent Blanc as new manager
The working partnership between Olympique Lyon and Bosz has now officially ended. Up until mid-2023, the trainer’s contract with Les Gones was still in effect. Blanc will be accompanied by a qualified group trainer. The former defender spent many years coaching Bordeaux and Paris Saint-Germain in addition to serving as France’s national coach. His last position in Qatar came to an end at the beginning of this year.
Upon signing with OL, Laurent Blanc stated: “I’m thrilled to be here. Then I met the players, then the staff. We’ll approach it aggressively but delicately. The players are aware that the circumstances do not align with the goals since they can feel them. They are aware that they need to improve. I spoke to them briefly but firmly. Prior to the cut, you must get as many points as you can. Players are aware of it. In order to see results, we will need to rebuild our confidence. We must put out our best effort to achieve this goal by the middle of November. Collaboration with current players is crucial. I’m not a lovely dreamer, I understand the difficulties.”
