Simeone has ridiculed Barcelona. At the press moment after the narrowly won duel with Girona, the Argentinian coach made a subtle reference to the results of the leader of La Liga.
Simeone jokes to Barcelona: “Heard that winning 1-0 is also nice”
“I hear from the strategists who like a good game that a 1-0 win is also very nice,” says Simeone, referring to Barcelona’s most recent results. The Catalans won the last three games 1-0, which led to satisfaction for Xavi. “That is also very much appreciated by other teams,” said Simeone.
It is already the fourth 1-0 victory for Atlético Madrid in the last seven games. But it is precisely those victories that give Simeone a good feeling. The Argentine continues, “There is attention to the defensive aspect and the quality gives you the win. I attach great importance to a 1-0 win, because that speaks of a lot of intensity.”
According to Simeone, it is therefore not wrong if teams are defensive. He asked, “How many goals against does the leader of the league have? Eight. If you defend well, you always end up higher than the teams that don’t defend well.”
PSG owners have eye on Spanish club for takeover
Sticking with Spanish football but dropping down into the 2nd tier, Qatari Sports Investments is investigating the possibilities of acquiring Málaga. Sources in France and Spain report this. The group that owns Paris Saint-Germain already invested heavily in Sporting Braga in the autumn.
The investment fund took over 22 percent of Braga’s shares in October. Taking over Málaga seems to be the next step in expanding the network. The Spanish Cope reports that nine million euros are needed to get 51 percent of the shares.
Málaga reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League in the 2012/13 season, but has since slipped considerably. The old club of Ruud van Nistelrooij and Joris Mathijsen, among others, was relegated from La Liga in 2018. Málaga is now twentieth in the second level in Spain.
Paris Saint-Germain is of course the major project of the Qatari investors. The French superpower was taken over in 2011, after which it spent enormously on the transfer market. However, the dream of winning the Champions League has not yet come true.
