After the championship match against Espanyol, Barcelona chairman Joan Laporta spoke briefly about a possible return of Lionel Messi, who watched the festivities in the dressing room from Paris on Sunday.
Messi ‘reports’ after a marred party in the Barcelona dressing room
Laporta, who stole the show in the dressing room at Barcelona after the championship game, was soon asked by the media present about what will happen in the coming transfer summer. And more specifically to a possible return of Messi at Camp Nou.
“We will do everything we can to bring Messi back to Barcelona,” Laporta said in good spirits. At that time, Barça supporters were already chanting the name of the club icon during festivities in the streets of the Catalan capital, who will almost certainly leave Paris Saint-Germain next summer.
To the amazement of his former teammate Ronald Araujo, Messi followed the party in the Barcelona dressing room from Paris. When Araujo made a video for TikTok, he saw that Messi was one of the viewers on his account. “Damn, Messi!” joked the pleasantly surprised Araujo when he saw the Argentinian’s name appear on the screen.
The fact that Araujo and his teammates were forced to continue the championship party in the dressing room quickly had to do with the attack of angry Espanyol supporters, who entered the field when the Barça players were dancing there.
Espanyol director Mao Ye apologized for the disturbances on the pitch. “The individuals who have entered the field do not represent what we stand for as Espanyol. We will do everything we can to avoid situations like this in the future. We have to investigate how this could have happened, because we had already taken several security measures,” Ye told Movistar.
Laporta steals the show in Barcelona dressing room after big words
According to Joan Laporta, the 27th league title in Barcelona’s club history marks the start of a new era. The president of the champion of Spain couldn’t believe his happiness after the victory over Espanyol.
With the victory over the city rivals (2-4), Barça already took the last step towards the title with four rounds to go, the first for the club since 2019 and therefore also the first for Frenkie de Jong in La Liga. The 26-year-old playmaker came over from Ajax four years ago. “This is a historic evening in a historic season,” Laporta exulted in front of the club channel.
“Becoming champion with four rounds to go is meaningful,” the policymaker continued. “This is the result of hard work and our talent. I want to congratulate all the Barcelona fans in the world. We are champions.”
Laporta also patted himself on the back when celebrating the championship: “We saved the club financially and we have now also brought the joy back to Barcelona. You can see it in the visitor numbers at Camp Nou. We want this to be the first title of a brilliant era. We want to further strengthen the team and we have already done our homework to make our team even better within the financial rules.”
