Bristol City 0-3 Manchester City: Manchester City qualified for the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Tuesday. The Citizens had little trouble with Bristol City, the number thirteen in the Championship. Phil Foden took City by the hand for the second time in four days.
Foden was already important for City in the Premier League on Saturday in the away game against AFC Bournemouth. The playmaker scored and provided an assist in the 1-4 win. Foden started again on Tuesday. Manager Pep Guardiola changed his team in six places. Erling Haaland, among others, got a rest in the cup tournament.
Without impressing enormously, City did book a big win at Ashton Gate Stadium. Partly thanks to Foden, who opened the score after just seven minutes by hitting the far post from a cross by Riyad Mahrez. The 0-1 was on the scoreboard for a long time, until Foden struck again after 74 minutes.
Nathan Aké had come forward and via the Dutchman and Julian Álvarez the ball ended up with Foden, who made it 0-2. The final agreement was for Kevin De Bruyne, who scored his goal by shooting sharply from a distance in the right corner. City easily reached the quarter-finals.
Leicester City 1-2 Blackburn Rovers
Leicester City is certainly not experiencing the best season in the Premier League and a painful cup elimination followed on Tuesday. Blackburn Rovers, the number four in the Championship, won at the King Power Stadium. Tyrhys Dolan opened the score for the visitors, who came to 0-2 after the break via Sammie Szmodics. Kelechi Iheanacho’s 1-2 came too late for Leicester.
Manchester United vs West Ham United
Three days after winning the League Cup, Manchester United can get back to work. In the fifth round of the FA Cup, a home game with West Ham United awaits on Wednesday. Tyrell Malacia can carefully think about a basic place.
The fumes of the final victory in the League Cup have barely lifted, and the next game is already on the roll. Man United will lock horns with West Ham United on Wednesday. Who will qualify for the quarter-finals of the FA Cup? Fred and Luke Shaw did not come out of the battle unscathed on Sunday. After their name is another question mark for the meeting with The Hammers. If Shaw is not fit in time, Malacia is his logical replacement.
At the press conference leading up to the game, manager Erik ten Hag praised his wide selection. He said, “Let me be clear: we didn’t win the League Cup with eleven players, we did it with the whole team. The team has been so important all season. We count on them and we know they will be ready. There are still great months and competitions ahead of us.”
