Manchester United resisted early pressure to go on to claim a 3-1 victory against Brentford in the Premier League yesterday. The highlight in this football match, among other recent English Premier League football results, was that Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford scored for the first time since November when he came off the bench on Wednesday.
United’s Marcus Rashford Scored for the First Time since November
United lacked in the first half whereas Brentford dominated, eliciting a number of important saves from goalkeeper David De Gea.
But after the break, Ralf Rangnick’s side were clinical. Indeed, Rashford after Anthony Elanga and Mason Greenwood scored for the Red Devils.
On the other hand, Brentford should have been comfortably ahead by halftime but they instead wasted numerous chances. For instance, two of Mathias Jensen’s efforts ended in the outstretched leg of United keeper De Gea blocking the ball.
Brentford eventually paid heavily for their profligacy when Elanga nodded United in front with a goal in the 55th minute.
Then, Greenwood tapped in from a counter-attack seven minutes later. And finally, joining the game as a substitute, Rashford rifled in his side’s third goal in the 77th minute.
Ivan Toney pulled a goal back from close range with five minutes remaining. But it was scant consolation for the hosts who slumped to a third successive defeat.
Another curious point of note was that Cristiano Ronaldo returned to United’s starting line-up after recovering from injury. But his manner was subdued and he reacted angrily after being substituted in the second half.
