Chris Smalling and Davide Zappacosta arrived last summer on loan from Manchester United and Chelsea respectively.
The English centre-back Smalling settled in the starting line-up under Paulo Fonseca, whereas a cruciate ligament injury ruined much of Zappacosta’s season in Rome.
But now, Smalling is leaving Roma to return to the United.
On behalf of the Giallorossi, Roma CEO Guido Fienga thanked Smalling and Zappacosta for their ‘commitment to the project of the club.’
CEO Fienga of the club has left a note on the club’sto thank the two players on the club’s behalf:
“We would like to thank Chris and Davide for the professionalism shown this season.
“Both showed their dedication and commitment to the club’s project. They shared with us every moment, both the positive ones and the difficult ones, and immediately showed great attachment to the Giallorossi colours.
“If the conditions are right, we would be honoured to be able to count on them again.”
