Manchester United earned a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on new coach Ralf Rangnick’s debut as 2021-22 season’s interim manager. The German coach won his first match in charge, thanks to Fred’s second-half goal in the Premier League. So, in last night’s Premier League football results, Ralf’s debut match was a success at home, Old Trafford, on Sunday.
Crystal Palace had won on their two previous visits to Old Trafford, but now, Manchester United managed to win 1-0.
They also managed to keep a clean sheet here, the first time United did so at Old Trafford this season.
This win has taken them to three points behind fourth-place West Ham United, while Crystal Palace remain in 13th place.
The only goal of the match came only moments after Crystal Palace’s Jordan Ayew missed a massive chance to score.
With just 13 minutes remaining, Fred found the net after a neat pull back from Mason Greenwood.
Premier League Football Results – Ralf’s Debut Match Was a Success
Manhcester United announced Ralf Rangnick as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s replacement in last Monday’s official football transfer.
However, the German coach was unable to lead from the dugout during Thursday’s 3-2 victory over Arsenal (EPL football scores).
So, this fixture against Crystal Palace on Sunday marked his first official game in charge as Manchester United’s interim manager.
And Manchester United’s players showed they had taken their new manager’s instructions on board. They pressed Palace from the front and played at a noticeably quicker tempo.
Indeed, the home side were by far the better team throughout as they closed down Palace’s attacks at every opportunity. In fact, they refused to even allow their opponents any time on the ball.
Rangnick started with Cristiano Ronaldo in attack alongside Marcus Rashford as Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes supported the front two.
However, despite these positive changes, United rarely threatened Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita with the final ball, the finishing, clearly lacking.
As the game wore on and United’s players were unable to press with the same intensity they started with.
This caused frustration among home fans, who feared the visitors would make it a third consecutive success at Old Trafford.
On 75 minutes, Jordan Ayew fired James Tomkins’ knockdown across goal and wide. This was a huge miss because he had beaten David de Gea and Cheikhou Kouyate could not get on the end of it.
Crystal Palace paid heavily for this mistake as Fred opened the scoring just two minutes later and it ended 1-0.
