Chelsea remain top of the Premier League after winger Hakim Ziyech scored a second-half winner that saved them against Watford. So, in Wednesday’s Premier League football results, Chelsea barely beat Watford 1-2 away, as guests at Vicarage Road.
Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel’s side will remain top of the Premier League after claiming an away win over Watford.
With City on 32 and Liverpool on 31, Chelsea lead the Premier League standings with 33 points from 14 games.
On the other hand, Claudio Ranieri’s side will derive much motivation from the way they pushed the league leaders. But the truth is, after this home defeat, Watford are just one place and three points above the relegation zone.
The Blues thus claimed a 2-1 victory over Watford despite a lengthy delay following a medical emergency in the stands.
Thomas Tuchel’s side started slow before teams both had to come off the field by the referee at 13 minutes. There was an incident in the stands of the Watford stadium which stopped all play.
The score was 0-0 at the time and the match only resumed around 30 minutes later.
Premier League Football Results – Chelsea Barely Beat Watford 1-2
Midfielder Mason Mount kicked the game into action when he opened the scoring at the 28th minute.
Teammate Kai Havertz received the ball in the penalty box before he slid a short pass to Mount. And the latter side-footed the ball into the bottom corner of the Watford net.
Havertz almost doubled Chelsea’s lead when he netted a goal himself shortly after, but referees quickly disallowed it for offside.
Watford hit back to this Chelsea attack when Emmanuel Dennis equalised on 42 minutes.
He struck the ball through the legs of defender Antonio Rudiger and it found the bottom corner of the net. Dennis now has an impressive run of four goals from his last five Premier League matches.
At the stroke of half-time, midfielder Moussa Sissoko missed a glorious chance to put Watford ahead. When he found himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, he miskicked the ball wide which unfortunately wasted a great opportunity.
Then, Ziyech netted a winner for Chelsea at 72 minutes as he struck home an inviting low cross from Mount.
