Wednesday evening’s game comes too early, but Christian Eriksen is approaching a return to Manchester United. Erik ten Hag revealed this at the press conference on Tuesday.
Erik ten Hag gives injury and training updates
“He will join group training again today, so we’ll see how quickly he can make progress to hook up,” said Erik ten Hag, who, in addition to Eriksen, also had to miss Casemiro during the 2-0 defeat at Newcastle United last Sunday. “Two quality players. Matches are always decided in midfield. But if you don’t have them, you still have to win,” the manager who guided Ajax to the UEFA Champions League semi finals said.
“We had a very poor performance because the opponent wanted it more. They were sharper,” Erik ten Hag looked back again. “You can see that in the duels: in the attack we only won 16 out of 61 and in the defense the opponent defeated us with 48 out of 78 duels won. Then you can’t win a match.”
Erik ten Hag comments on Chelsea’s sacking of Graham Potter
On the day he went down with Newcastle, Erik ten Hag saw colleague Graham Potter being evicted from Chelsea. “You never get the time,” the Dutch manager responded when asked. “You have to get results. Top football is about results, that’s the game. You have to work on the process and find a balance.”
In addition to Eriksen, Erik ten Hag also saw Aaron Wan-Bissaka return to the training field. The right back has to compete with Diogo Dalot. “I think it’s very close together. Maybe Aaron is a little stronger defensively and Diogo gives you more offensively. I must say they are both making progress,” he further added.
Manchester United have something to make up for against Brentford on Wednesday. In the second game of the season, United went down hard at the current number seven in the Premier League: 4-0.
