Man City 3-0 West Ham: Manchester City won 3-0 against West Ham United on Wednesday. After a difficult first half, Nathan Aké opened the score five minutes after the break, after which Erling Haaland scored his record goal. His 35th league goal this season is a new record. With this three-pointer, Pep Guardiola’s team takes a big step towards winning the Premier League.
Aké scores, Haaland takes record and City has the title up for grabs
Stefan Ortega made his debut at Manchester City in goal. The thirty-year-old German was drafted so that Ederson could get some rest. Ortega didn’t get much to do right away. The good news for West Ham: City also played a few chances together. After half an hour, Erling Haaland brought in Rodri, who hit the post from the edge of sixteen. West Ham took the break relatively comfortably.
Second half
Five minutes after the break, the spell was broken by Nathan Aké. De Hagenaar was reached by Riyad Mahrez, the Algerian painted a cross to the far post and there Aké was ready to hit the target. West Ham – what else could it be? – opened things up a bit more in the back, but couldn’t really give Ortega a hard time yet. Twenty minutes followed the moment almost everyone at the Etihad Stadium had come for.
Haaland was set free for Lukasz Fabianski by his friend Jack Grealish. The Norwegian left the Pole without a chance with a marker: 2-0, the decision in the match with the record goal. In the final phase, Phil Foden set the final score at 3-0 with Manchester City’s thousandth goal under Guardiola. The Spaniard settled in England in mid-2015.
With this victory, City has taken the lead in the Premier League. The win moves them into first place in the Premier League, one point ahead of Arsenal after 33 games. They have amassed one point more with one game less than Arsenal. Given the favorable rest program and form of City and The Gunners, Guardiola’s side are currently the towering favorites to claim the championship.
Manchester City will play the next game at home against Leeds United. The teams will face each other on Saturday, May 6. West Ham United will take on Manchester United at home on Sunday, May 7.
