Among other recent La Liga football results, Elche clinched a 2-1 win over Espanyol on Monday in an away fixture. Guests Elche thus ended their hosts Espanyol’s seven-game unbeaten streak at home in the Spanish league last night.
When Elche beat them in their own home last night, Espanyol had already previously enjoyed six wins and a draw at home.
The only other team to win at Espanyol’s RCDE Stadium in Barcelona in the league are the defending champions. Atlético Madrid were the only ones to win there, in September, before Elche also did yesterday, with 11,870 people present.
This feat is all the more impressive after we also consider that Elche were winless in their last three league matches. Before last night’s La Liga victory, Elche hadn’t won in their last eight away games in the competition.
Despite the favourable 1-2 result on Monday night, Elche are still just two points clear of the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, Espanyol, back in the top flight after a season in the second division, have remained in 11th place.
And Real Madrid continue leading the league by five points from second-placed Sevilla, who still have a game in hand.
