Information has again come out about the investigation against Ivan Toney. He is disappointed by the fact that the English Football Association is investigating him. The 26-year-old Brentford striker has broken the FA’s betting rules. On Wednesday it came out that he may receive a hefty six-month suspension.
“I am shocked and disappointed to read the press speculation about the FA’s ongoing investigation into me,” Toney wrote on Instagram. “I have been told by the FA that this is a confidential investigation and that information will not come out until a decision is made.”
British newspapers reported on Wednesday that there are 262 charges against Toney, who has pleaded guilty in most of the cases. However, that information was not intended to be released. “It’s totally disturbing to read that the FA is saying I’m going to be suspended for six months before there’s even a hearing,” said the striker.
“That makes me concerned about the process that is being followed,” continues the attacker. “My lawyers will request the FA to investigate the leak of information. This is the second time that stories appear in the newspapers. Last time it happened just before the World Cup selection was announced.”
Toney adds that he will continue to focus on football, “Since I’ve been told this investigation is supposed to be confidential, I can’t comment further.”
Andrey Santos returns to Vasco da Gama
Speaking of players not allowed to compete in the Premier League, less than two months after his arrival, Chelsea said goodbye to Andrey Santos. The Londoners failed to get the talented Brazilian to play and so he temporarily returned to Vasco da Gama.
Andrey is considered one of the greatest talents of his generation in Brazil. Chelsea paid around 12.5 million euros in early January to take over the teenager from Vasco da Gama. With that, The Blues trumped competitors such as Manchester City and Barcelona.
However, Chelsea did not manage to get Andrey also available. In any case, the midfielder was first in Colombia for the Copa América Under-20 in January and February. As captain and top scorer, he led Brazil to the final victory there (photo).
Chelsea have now decided to send Andrey back to Brazil after all. At Vasco da Gama he can continue to make minutes and continue to develop. Chelsea hopes to greet and register Andrey next summer.
