Steve Cooper will remain the manager of Nottingham Forest for the time being. Club owner Evangelos Marinakis denies the rumors of an imminent dismissal and expresses his confidence in the trainer.
Nottingham Forest refuses to contribute to Premier League trainer graveyard
Various media suggested that the 43-year-old Welshman would be fired this week from the number seventeen of the Premier League. After a dismal run of eight league games without a win, the pressure on Cooper has increased considerably. In an official statement, the club owner makes short work of the rumors.
“No one is denying that our club is in a difficult position in the Premier League,” said Marinakis. “But we want to put an end to the speculation and the false and disruptive media coverage by confirming that Cooper will remain our trainer.”
Marinakis is therefore fed up with the false rumors that are doing the rounds. “There should be no time for distractions, rumors and speculation. There is only time for hard work, determination, dedication from Steve and the players to get the results we need.’
Results must be better
Marinakis nevertheless emphasizes that the performance of the club must improve in the coming period. “We are all disappointed with the recent performances and it is very clear that a lot of work needs to be done to urgently address this. Results and performance must improve immediately,” said the owner.
Cooper has been at the helm of Nottingham Forest since September 2021 and promoted to the Premier League with the club. In October, the coach’s contract was extended, while the club was at the bottom of the English league at the time. This goes against the trend in the Premier League. Thirteen trainers have already been fired this season, but Forest just keeps confidence in the trainer for the time being.
Sinisterra impresses in England: “His best game for Leeds”
Luis Sinisterra received a lot of praise after the match against Nottingham Forest. The winger gave Leeds United three points, putting the team above the relegation zone.
“Luis and Patrick Bamford played excellently,” Leeds coach Javi Gracia told Leeds Live afterwards. “But not only these two, the defenders have also done a great job.” Sinisterra thus made his third Premier League goal of the season. The Colombian was taken over from Feyenoord for at least 25 million euros last summer.
