Nottingham Forest 4-3 Southampton: Nottingham Forest won the home game against Southampton on Monday. Nottingham Forest did more than good business on Monday evening. The relegation battling side booked a home win over Southampton after a spectacle. The game in the Premier League ended 4-3.
The home side took the lead early in the game. Former Liverpool FC striker Taiwo Awoniyi scored twice in three minutes. Awoniyi scored after 18 minutes, on a pass from Brennan Johnson. Three minutes later, Nottingham Forest increased their lead as Awoniyi passed the goalkeeper once more, with an assist from Danilo dos Santos de Oliveira. After which Carlos Álvarez was able to bring the tension back. Four minutes later, Carlos Alcaraz passed the goalkeeper, with a Stuart Armstrong assist, to cut Southampton’s lead to 2–1. Morgan Gibbs-White put Nottingham Forest 3-1 in the 44th minute. He increased the margi from eleven meters.
Second half
Immediately after the break, Lyanco Evangelista Silveira Neves Vojnovic cleared something of the deficit for Southampton. Dos Santos de Oliveira further increased the score in the 73rd minute with an assist from Gibbs-White. Danilo Oliveira brought City Ground into ecstasy
The goal that narrowed the margin to 4-3 for Southampton was scored by James Ward-Prowse. James Ward-Prowse scored the goal deep in injury time via a penalty kick, but that was it, so that Nottingham – just like Everton – crawled above the relegation line. For Southampton it seems to be over in the Premier League for the time being. The relegation candidate must make up an eight-point deficit in the remaining three games.
The result means Southampton’s tenth game without a win in a row. In their last five games, Nottingham Forest have won two and lost three, while Southampton have one draw and four defeats. This was Nottingham Forest’s sixth one-goal victory this season. The defeat was also Southampton’s thirteenth defeat by one goal.
With three rounds to go, Nottingham Forest is in sixteenth place in the table while Southampton is in twentieth place. In the next game, on Saturday 13 May, Nottingham Forest will play at Chelsea. Southampton then play Fulham at home at St. Mary’s Stadium..
