Chelsea Won UEFA’s Super Cup over Villareal on Penalties
The European champions crowned a better game in the first half with a goal.
Marcos Alonso found Havertz on the left wing with an excellent long ball. Then came a ground pass for Ziyech who was accurate from 10 meters and put Chelsea ahead by 1-0.
However, the Spanish team reached the equalizer after a big mistake by Chelsea stopper Antonio Rudiger. Rudiger shot the ball very badly from his penalty area, so it returned to the danger zone very quickly.
Then Gerard Moreno played a nice combination with Dio who left him the ball to kick with his heel. In fact, Villarreal’s top scorer was relentless again.
And even Chelsea dominated the rest of the game, the London team failed to “mine” the Villarreal bunker.
So, the two teams had to decide the winner by their performance in penalties.
In this penalty shootout, Chelsea reserve goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga made saves that made him their hero.
The coach of the “blues”, Tuchel, introduced Kepa Arrizabalaga to the game by, in the 119th minute. And this may be precisely because of his good “reading” of shots from the white spot.
Indeed, Kepa justified this substitution by defending the shots of Mandi and Albiol.
At Chelsea, the only unsuccessful penalty striker was the first performer Kai Havertz, but Kepa corrected his mistake as well.
